For the fans of Supergirl, these are uncertain times. We are seeing The CW Network show getting delayed again and again. Although we will see what the future of the show looks like.
Meanwhile, All the projections have gone out of the window with the uncertainty all over the world. All sectors have suffered massive losses and are staring into an abyss.
With this show, where there already have been a few eyebrows raised on the performance, the survival chances are slim. However, There definitely will be a season six for the franchise. The sixth instalment is already in pre-production with creators having received the green light from the production service.
What does the future holds for Supergirl?
Due to the pandemic and the restriction caused by it, We can understand the delay. The financial impact was always going to be really harsh reality. However, another huge reason is a very special news for all of us.
Melissa Benoist who leads the show as Supergirl is going to be a mother. Benoist is currently on a maternity leave away from the series. Hence, the next season of the show will be further delayed. But no reason to be upset here, we’re all happy and giving our best wishes to Melissa and her family.
Coming back to the production of the show, the filming hasn’t yet started for the next season.
Season six is given three to six months later air date. That will mean we won’t see Supergirl season six on Netflix until August 2024 at the earliest. But there is a possibility to November or December 2024 at the latest. This applies to all the DC universe as everything is up in the air.
Why is the show not getting lavish reviews?
The first instalment was quite good and held well to the superhero genre. Although, the second season started well but drifted deeply into interpersonal drama. Season three of the show started the way the previous series ended, with less emphasis on our story and deeply into character emotions/relationships and social issues.
These are meaningful topics, no doubting that, but viewers watch superhero shows to see action and fun, not for deep emotion or for a critical societal exposé.
The second half of the season five took a noise dive after Crisis. Full of filler episodes that have not anything to drive the plot forward. We are two episodes away from the finale and the villain is non existent.
It’s the time for the creators to take their time and revive interest in the storyline.
