Netflix is the most significant and most used online streaming service in the world. Although the audiences have given it a crown all around the world, it’s not perfect by any stretch.
Recently there has been a slew of heartbreaks for fans with their favorite shows being canceled. Two series’ are the latest on the end of the chopping block. They are I Am Not Okay With This and The Society.
However, before blaming the streaming service, there needs to be a clarification about the reason. Why would Netflix cancel a show that is doing well? Is there a reason why they take a loss by putting away their assets?
Objective of Netflix canceling these productions?
Firstly, The reason, when you hear it, will seem so convenient. Secondly, being convenient will never be the reason not to tell you the truth.
COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on every aspect of life all around the world. Undoubtedly, this would be a much better reason and an acceptable one for the fans that are hurting. The shows mentioned above are both vaguely for the same age group, i.e., the teen audiences.
Both the shows were close to renewing, in fact, both I Am Not Okay With This and The Society were given the green light already. After the initial renewal, in the wake of the financial crisis, Netflix has retracted the proposal and canceled them.
It’s noteworthy that these shows were not binned due to any unpopularity or fault of their own. Uncertainty around production dates and balancing the presence of a large cast like The Society, coupled with unexpected budget increases due to the pandemic led to the decisions that were made on The Society, and I Am Not Okay With This. Both of these were well-received by critics and fans and had strong support at Netflix.
