The Indian government imposed nationwide lockdown amid coronavirus outbreak from March 25. Forced to remain inside their houses, people took social media to demand the re-run of some famous old shows of DD National. After this, the government of India announced to re-run some popular old shows like Ramayan, Circus, Mahabharat etc. on DD National and DD Prasar Bharti.
Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan aired after 33 years on DD National. It smashed all the records and became the most-watched entertainment show across the globe, with 77 million views on April 16, 2024.
Arun Govil, Sunil Lehri, Deepika Chikhalia, Dara Singh, Sanjay Jog, and others starred in the show.

Ramayan is written, produced, and directed by Ramanand Sagar. It aired on Doordarshan from 1987 to 1988. Ramayan was a craze during its original run. This epic saga successfully recreated its madness in the people during its re-run.
Also, Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan surpassed The Big Bang Theory and Game of Thrones.
The famous American TV sitcom directed by Mark Cendrowski, The Big Bang Theory, got its highest viewership on may 16,2019 of 18.5 million. Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kunal Nayyar and others starred in the show.
Another famous TV series Game of Thrones got its highest views of 17.4 million on its last episode.
