MARVEL has said about its upcoming movies for the next two years at San Diego Comic-Con, and a lot of new characters are about to be introduced to the MCU.
RELEASE DATE
Kevin Feige confirmed that The Eternals would be the second movie of Phase 4 as it hits cinemas on November 6, 2024.
It features an exciting new team of Super-Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. The Eternals could be a famous project like Avengers. It’s the twenty-fifth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film is directed by Chloe Zhao, written by Mathew and Ryan Firpo.
PLOT
When the Celestials visited Earth one million years ago and performed genetic experiments on early proto-humanity, they created two different races: the long-lived Eternals, and the genetically unstable and monstrously grotesque Deviants.
They are mighty with superhuman strength, durability, telepathy, the ability to fly, create illusions and manipulate matter
The film will include a love story between Ikaris (Richard Madden) and another Eternal, Sersi.
Connections to other films
Eternals share a connection with other films in the MCU. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Peter Quill’s father, Ego, tells Peter that he is a Celestial. The Collector said to us about Celestials, Knowhere is the severed head of a Celestial.
Villian of avengers Thanos himself is an Eternal, although he is Deviant. When he visits Vormir, the Red Skull spoke him, “Thanos, son of A’lars.” In the comics, A’lars is an Eternal and the founder of their home on Titan. While Thanos might not appear in any films post-Avengers 4, there is a ton of history as well as backstories that could be explored through an Eternals film.
CAST
Feige announced eight of the Eternals who will be in the upcoming movie at SDCC and an additional three characters at Disney’s D23 Expo in August
The outstanding ensemble cast include Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as the cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phaistos, Salma Hayak as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite, Don Lee as the mighty Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as the aloof longer Drug, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena. Kit Harrington was cast as Dane Whitman.
In March 2019, reports stated that the film was expected to feature Marvel Studio’s first gay superhero. At san Diego Comic-Con in July, producer Kevin Feige confirmed that the film would include an LGBTQ character.
The Eternals is currently filming overseas, with its latest shoot taking place at Oxford University.
And there’s already a rumor out there about the post-credits scene that will follow Eternals. Reportedly, the scene after Eternals will introduce the X-Men into the MCU, illustrating how the titular beings were the ones who created the X-Gene.
At Comic-Con Experience in Brazil in December 2019, fans got their first sneak peek of footage from Eternals. Unfortunately, the clips aren’t available to the general public right now.
